Common Talks Marriage and Receives Special Award from Jennifer Hudson
Jennifer Hudson playfully confronted Common over his recent comments about marriage.
Common and Pete Rock were guests on a recent episode of The Jennifer Hudson Show to promote their album, The Auditorium Vol. 1. However, it was the perfect opportunity for Hudson, 43, to ask her beau about another interview he did recently.
While speaking to radio show The Breakfast Club in July, Common was asked about marrying the Dreamgirls star, to which he responded, “I mean, if I’m gonna get married it’s to her. That’s as simple as that.”
Hudson slyly referred to that interview, saying, “I heard you’ve been even out there talking about marriage. What’s that about?”
“I was asked about marriage and I just answered honestly,” said the 52-year-old rapper. “You told me a quote that your mother said, ‘A man knows what he wants.’ And I was saying my true feelings … ‘Listen, Jennifer is the person. If I should be married, it will be to Jennifer Kate Hudson.’”
He then turned the question on Hudson who agreed that her late mother, Darnell Donerson, would’ve loved him.
“My mother was right. I think if she had met you, she said, ‘I don’t know about the rest of them, but that Common is alright with me,’” Hudson quipped. “That’s what she would say. And I would agree. I think it’s a beautiful thing. I think you are a deserving man and, you know, I support that idea. I think it’s a beautiful idea. I will say that.”
“Now, hold on, in due time. You know, if it ever gets to that place,” she added.
Rumors that Common and Jennifer Hudson were dating began in 2022, but they denied the speculation until he appeared on Hudson’s talk show earlier this year to confirm their romance.
