Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has expressed his discontent with the scheduling of the Conference League final against Real Betis, citing a 48-hour advantage for the Spanish side.
Real Betis plays their final La Liga match against Valencia on Friday, May 23, while Chelsea faces Nottingham Forest on Sunday, May 25.
Maresca believes this difference in schedule is unfair, stating, “I’m not happy, 100%. You cannot allow a team 48 hours more than the other team when you play a European final.”
He has suggested that either Chelsea should have played their match on Friday or Real Betis should have played on Sunday like Chelsea.
The Italian manager’s concerns seem to center around the scheduling disparity and its potential impact on his team’s preparation for the final.
Chelsea needs to finish in the top five of the Premier League to qualify for next season’s Champions League. If they finish sixth or win the Conference League, they’ll qualify for the Europa League.
