Catholic Priest Killed by Gunmen in Anambra State

A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Tobias Chukwujekwu Okonkwo, was shot and killed by unidentified assailants in Ihiala, Anambra state, on Thursday evening.

According to a statement by the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi, Okonkwo was killed along the Onitsha-Owerri expressway around 7-8 pm.

The priest, who was born on August 11, 1984, and ordained on July 11, 2015, was the manager of the schools of nursing, midwifery, and medical laboratory at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Ihiala.

This incident is the latest in a series of security breaches in Anambra state, including the recent abduction of a member of the state house of assembly and the disappearance of an Anglican bishop.

The police are yet to comment on the incident, but the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi has called for prayers and Holy Masses for the eternal joy of the deceased priest.
