Arsenal youngster Marcus McGuane has joined Barcelona.

The 18-year-old made two senior appearances at the Emirates, with both outings coming in the Europa League earlier this season.

Arsene Wenger had been keen to send the midfielder out on loan and Rangers had been keen.

But Barca have struck a permanent deal for McGuane, who has signed a three-and-a-half year deal.

He will link up with the club’s B team, with Barca including a €25m release clause in his contract.

McGuane was in the final year of his contract at the Emirates and talk over an extension had stalled.

“McGuane is a defensive midfielder, and overall he can play as a wing-back or even a centre back in training,” Wenger said when asked about the player earlier this season.
