A Group , All Progressives Congress (APC) Critical Stakeholders Forum, has called on the leadership of the party to quickly rescind its decision picking Abbas Tajudeen as speaker .

National Coordinator of the group ,Yusuf Gwomna made the call on Tuesday in Abuja at a news conference on the impending dangers of zoning the speaker of the 10th House of Representatives to Tajudeen Abbas of the Northwest i.

According to Gwomna , picking Abbas as speaker in order to reward his handwork was a mistake .

He said that this was because the party needed to allow the North west caucus to put forward visible members who are acceptable to the majority of Honourable members -elect in the general interest of the party and Nigerians.

“We salute the courage of the National Working Committee of our party for adhering to the recommendations of the Concerned APC Members Forum in the zoning and micro-zoning of the Senate leadership to the most-ranking Senators from the South-South and Northwest, where the Senate President and deputy are zoned.

“It is pertinent to note that in the Senate, APC has the majority of senators elect, an advantage for us to micro-zone positions without rancour unlike in the House of Rep where the party failed to produce the majority of lawmakers.

“Thus what is obtainable in the senate may not be achievable in the House of Representatives.

“On this note, we wish to draw the attention of our party leaders to the fact that, APC failed to produce the majority of Honourable members, as such, zoning of the house leadership should be based on credibility and acceptability of Honourable members if the APC must control the House of Representatives.

Gwomna said that APC has ranking members from the Northwest, highly experienced and capable of providing leadership for the House of Representatives and other principal officers aspiring to lead the 10th House of Representatives.

He however , said that the party ,mistakenly chose an unpopular member who may not be able to win over the majority opposition coalition to clnch the seat of the Honorable Speaker in any form of election.

“It will be painful if the APC loses the vibrant House of Representatives to the opposition because it will cause a major setback to the implementation of the renewed hope manifesto to the APC and the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“We advise that If the party must meddle into the House of Reps politics, it must consider acceptabllity, credibility, and capacity to win over members to the side of our party tn other to have a stable leadership after the inauguration.

“The fact that we do not have a simple majority to produce the speaker at will, has reminded us that as a party, we should rally around the most acceptable candidate in the house in order not to fail for the gimmick of the opposition

“We wish to remind the leaders of our party that, at the presidential election petition tribunal, the opposition are already united by joining the PDP suit against the president-elect.

” They may also be plotting dangerous political manoeuvres against our party and government by installing the speaker of the House of Representatives which is possible with the choice of Abbas Tajudeen by the APC who is not visible in the chamber. “

Gwomna therefore , called on the President-elect, who may be the recipient of the backlash
should the opposition succeed in producing the speaker of the House, to quickly reconsider the decision.

He also urged the party to allow a popular candidate from the Northwest emerge as speaker within the party.
