In a sad turn of events, 26 year old Adewura Latifat Bello, who went missing on Wednesday, May 15, on her way home from work was reportedly found dead in a Lagos canal.The news of her death quickly spread on Twitter as many users expressed sadness over her demise.
In the days that followed Adewura’s disappearance, the Nigerian Twitter community made concerted efforts to ensure that she was found as people kept calling for information about her whereabouts.
One twitter user with the name pathfinder put the blame on the negligence of the authorities who ought to have been proactive in the search for her.
Another twitter user lamented the fact that some people scammed the parents of the deceased lady by giving them a wrong address of where she was held hostage after collecting money.
Many twitter users could not contain the grief when they learnt of Adewura’s death, as they tried expressing how sad they are. Some tried to explain the unfortunate circumstances by saying only God knows everything as they wished her family strength.
Adewura was last seen on Wednesday, 15th May. In a post shared on twitter, Adewura’s last known communication was a call made to her relative around 7pm and gave off her current location at the time as Cement Bus Stop. “My sister was last spoken to at 7 pm Wednesday night on her way back from work. She told her sister she was at cement bus stop heading home. Twitter please help @Gidi_Traffic please help retweet.” the post read.
According to threads on Twitter, Adewura was aboard a motorcycle heading home on 15 May when both she fell into an open manhole, covered by flood water. There is no current news update on the motorcyclist.
“An unnecessary death due to an open manhole during a storm. Manhole was left open but fully covered with flood, she and the bike man missed it due to bad visibility. She wasn’t aware”,lamented Onaolapo Farouq on Twitter. While Farouq blamed government for not covering its manhole, another commentator, Sango Olukoso said the bikeman was warned “not to pass that same place, they told her to come down on d bike, I’m not here blaming her but it could have been avoided…..RIP TO her”
Meanwhile the Twitter community continue to mourn her death. Jade Goodie who described Adewura as her cousin wrote: “Cousin. Baby girl. Rest in perfect peace. You were such a bright light in the family. And I love you always. I can’t believe it. #AdewuraBello #RIPWura”.
