2023: Simon Ekpa Reportedly Arrested by Finland Authorities
LAHTELAINEN separatist Simon Ekpa does not respond to the door buzzer. It is almost 11.30 on Thursday.
We had agreed on an interview at Ekpa’s apartment near Lahti Market Square. As late as 10.06, Ekpa had published a tweet to almost 70,000 of his followers.
” We Biafra people are fighting to the end this time ”, in the last post read.
Ekpa is pushing for the independence of Biafra in Southeast Nigeria without resorting to means. He incites people on social media to boycott Saturday’s presidential election.
Lahtelainen Etelä-Suomen Sanomat reported on Thursday that Ekpa ” does not cover up his involvement in eliminating the government’s people. He even leads the operation and acquires weapons ”.
EKPA claims to have publicly risen to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra ( IPOB ) Nnamdi Kanun as a deputy after he was arrested. He also claims to prescribe the IPOB armed wing Eastern Security Network ( ESN ).
But the tangle is complex. Some of those who claim to be members of the IPOB or ESN accuse Ekpa of lying and abusing Kanu’s name.
The intention is to urge Ekpa to explain what his separatism and opposition to the election are all about.

A photographer in HS’s place later testified when Simon Ekpa was led out of the apartment by police in civilian clothes.
CRIMINAL INSPECTOR Tommi Reen the Central Criminal Police confirms to HS on the telephone that krp had a police operation on Thursday in a private residence in the center of Lahti in connection with an ongoing preliminary investigation. Police caught one man from the apartment. Krp suspects the arrested man of the crime, but does not comment on the criminal title at this point.
Reen did not confirm the man’s identity, but only spoke on a general level about the operation in an apartment in the center of Lahti. He did not comment further.
NIGERIA has asked Finland to intervene in Ekpa’s operations. Last week, the Nigerian Foreign Minister invited the Finnish Ambassador Leena Pylvänäinen meeting for the subject.
Team leader of the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs in West and Central Africa Jussi Nummelin told a week ago Thursday HS that Finland shares the security concerns, and condemns the violence and incitement to it, as well as ” säivät actions aimed at preventing people from exercising their democratic rights ”.
However, Nummelin stressed that the State Department is not the actual party to the case, but the police have jurisdiction in case of suspected crime.
