Pastor Tobi Adegboyega, a Nigerian pastor, is set to be deported from the UK after losing his appeal against deportation. Adegboyega, who is also a cousin of Star Wars actor John Boyega, was the leader of SPAC Nation, a church that was shut down due to financial mismanagement and lack of transparency.
The church failed to account for over £1.87 million in outgoings, leading to investigations and ultimately, the deportation order. Adegboyega had argued that deportation would infringe on his right to family life, citing his marriage to a British citizen. However, the tribunal found that his claims of influence and accomplishments were exaggerated, and that his deportation would not significantly impact the community.
Adegboyega has been living in the UK unlawfully since 2005, after entering the country on a visitor’s visa. His application for leave to remain under the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) was denied, and he has now lost his appeal against deportation.
