Tribunal Sacks Enugu Rep Member, Declares Labour Candidate Winner
In a landmark ruling, the House of Representatives tribunal has sacked Rt. Hon. Simon Atigwe, the member representing Igboeze North/Udenu federal constituency, and declared Hon. Dennis Agbo of the Labour Party as the rightful winner of the election.
The tribunal’s decision, delivered on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, found that the election was marred by irregularities, including wrong computation of results and substantial non-compliance to the electoral act.

According to the ruling, the tribunal invalidated 2000 votes added to the PDP candidate’s tally and restored the original votes from the February 25, 2023 election. This move gave Labour Party’s Agbo a total of 28,870 votes, surpassing Atigwe’s 21,863 votes.
The tribunal’s chairman, Justice H N Kunaza, declared Agbo the actual winner of the Igbo Eze North/ Udenu Federal constituency and ordered the withdrawal of the certificate of return issued to Atigwe. The certificate is to be issued to Agbo instead.
This ruling marks a significant development in Nigeria’s political landscape, emphasizing the importance of electoral integrity and fairness.
