Tragedy struck in Lagos on Sunday when a woman named Abosede drowned after a canoe accident on the Erekiti River.

She was returning from the farm with her husband, Jesuyon, and her 17-year-old sister, Mary, when their canoe overturned midstream, tossing all three into the water.

While Jesuyon and Mary managed to survive, Abosede was swept away by the current. A family source said the farmer successfully saved his sister-in-law but couldn’t rescue his wife.

Lagos State Police PRO, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident and said that both marine police and local divers were mobilized for a search and rescue mission.

“Efforts are ongoing to recover the body, and an investigation is currently underway,” Hundeyin said.

The local community remains deeply shaken as the search along the river continues.
