BONA NAIJAPresident Bola Tinubu has congratulated Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State following the Supreme Court’s affirmation of his election victory.
Governor Okpebholo was declared the winner of the September 2024 Edo State governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). His victory, however, was contested in court, culminating in today’s judgment by the Supreme Court, which upheld his election as valid and legitimate.
In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu hailed the decision of the apex court, describing it as a victory for democracy and the people of Edo State.
The President urged Governor Okpebholo to be magnanimous in victory and to work towards uniting all citizens of Edo, regardless of political affiliation, around a common goal of development and progress.
“Now that the legal hurdles are cleared, it is time to accelerate the delivery of exceptional services and good governance to the people of Edo State, which the governor has already begun to do,” the statement read.
President Tinubu also extended his congratulations to the leadership and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State. He called for continued unity and commitment to fulfilling the mandate given by the people.
The ruling reaffirms Okpebholo’s position as the duly elected governor and signals the end of the legal battle surrounding the 2024 election.
