Tinubu Condemns Rivers Violence, Orders Police to Restore Order

President Bola Tinubu has condemned the violence and destruction that erupted in Rivers State following last Saturday’s local government council election.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu expressed deep concern over reports of arson, explosions, and vandalism in the state. He urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara, political leaders, and their supporters to exercise restraint and uphold the rule of law.

The President directed the Nigeria Police Force to immediately restore and maintain peace, law, and order in the state, ensuring the security of public institutions and safeguarding government facilities built with public funds.

“Self-help has no place in a democratic system, especially after 25 years of continuous democracy,” President Tinubu emphasized, stressing that the judiciary can settle all political disputes.

He called on all parties to de-escalate the situation and discourage their supporters from engaging in violence or destructive actions.

This intervention comes after suspected arsonists set ablaze the Eleme Local Government Secretariat and other reports of violence in various parts of the state.

With tensions still high, President Tinubu’s directive aims to prevent further escalation and ensure a peaceful resolution to the disputes arising from the election.
