Yearly Italian sports newspaper, Tuttosport awards the Golden Boy prize to the world’s best young footballer. Well, the 2019 shortlist is finally out, and Nigerian talent is boldly represented on the list by Samuel Chukwueze and Tom Dele-Bashiru.
The longlist was released four months ago, with 100 nominees. So far, it’s been whittled down three times, leaving us with the current 40. Throughout these cuts, Chukwueze and Dele-Bashiru have stayed put, giving their fans hope that one of them could be named the winner by December.
Last season, the gifted Chukwueze established himself as a formidable player in Villarreal, scoring five goals in 26 La Liga games. For the 20-year-old, it just wasn’t about the goals alone, as he bagged the most dribbles that season for a La Liga player aged 21 or under.
Just three months ago, Dele-Bashiru joined Watford on a six-year deal. At the 2019 Under-20 World Cup, the 20-year-old scored three goals with the Flying Eagles, as they gunned for the trophy in Poland. His impressive form shows he’s ready to take the Premier League by storm.
