Rio Ngumoha Makes Liverpool History in Dramatic Win vs Newcastle

Liverpool’s teenage forward Rio Ngumoha made history on Sunday as he became the club’s youngest-ever goalscorer, firing a last-gasp winner in a thrilling 3-2 victory over Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

The 16-year-old struck in the 100th minute to seal all three points for the Premier League champions, sending the away fans wild and breaking Newcastle hearts in a fiery encounter.

Heated Clash at St James’ Park

The atmosphere was tense from the start, with Newcastle still bruised by Liverpool’s summer capture of striker Hugo Ekitike, who turned down a move to Tyneside in favour of Anfield.

Eddie Howe’s side made a bright start but were undone in the 35th minute when Ryan Gravenberch opened the scoring with a low effort that deflected off Fabian Schär.

The game turned on its head in first-half stoppage time as Anthony Gordon was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Virgil van Dijk, a decision upheld after a VAR review.

Newcastle Fight Back

Liverpool capitalised almost immediately after the restart, with Ekitike finishing coolly to double the lead inside the first 30 seconds of the second half.

Despite being a man down, Newcastle refused to fold. Captain Bruno Guimarães pulled one back with a diving header in the 57th minute before substitute William Osula bundled home a dramatic late equaliser in the 88th.

Ngumoha Steals the Show

Just as it seemed Liverpool had thrown away victory, up stepped Rio Ngumoha. Left unmarked deep into stoppage time, the youngster kept his composure to fire home and seal a famous win.

At 16 years and 361 days old, Ngumoha is now not only Liverpool’s youngest-ever scorer but also the fourth youngest in Premier League history, behind James Vaughan, James Milner and Wayne Rooney.
