The House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence has called on the Federal Government to acquire new aircraft for President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.

This recommendation follows a comprehensive investigation into the presidential air fleet’s status, which revealed concerns about the aircraft’s airworthiness and technical condition.

According to the committee’s report, procuring additional aircraft is crucial for the country’s interests, given the potential consequences of any operational failures. The new aircraft will provide a safe, comfortable, and suitable carrier for the president and vice president, aligning with their office’s status and responsibilities.

The investigation was prompted by reports of faulty aircraft in the presidential fleet, which forced the president to use a chartered plane during his recent trip abroad. Some lawmakers had suggested alternative travel options, including commercial aircraft or road travel. However, the committee’s recommendation emphasizes the importance of a reliable and secure presidential fleet.

The Federal Government is yet to respond to this recommendation, but the move is seen as a step towards ensuring the safety and dignity of the presidency.
