PROF. JULIUS IHONVBERE: ENCOUNTERING AN EXCEPTIONAL LEADER

For almost a decade and counting, I have been involved in projects of national significance. In the course of doing what I do, I met with a number of people, including political leaders whose involvement with me positively shaped my pursuit. But I have never met a man like Rt. Hon. Prof. Julius Omozuanvbo Ihonvbere, OON, DSSRS, KSC, Leader, 10th House of Representatives.

Today, like never before, “Brian Tracy’s quote, “At every turning point in a man’s life, someone is standing either to help or to hinder,” resonates deeply with me and my experience in last 9 months.
I am profoundly grateful for those who extend a helping hand in the course of my journey, especially when they go above and beyond my expectations. Without an iota of flattery, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere embodies this exceptional support.

While I’ve encountered helpful individuals throughout my life, my interaction with Professor Ihonvbere marked a significant turning point. At a crucial juncture, when my team and I needed a powerful advocate, he stepped forward as a selfless leader, a patriot, and a mentor. He offered his influence and support without reservation.

In a society where assistance from prominent figures often comes at a cost or with a price tag, Professor Ihonvbere, despite his demanding schedule, invested his time and resources to support me, a ‘stranger.’ It’s important to note that we had no prior connection until June 27, 2024, yet he has consistently championed my project since then as if it is his own project.

Unlike others in his position, including some from my own region, who declined to assist, Professor Ihonvbere believed in my vision. Without a doubt, we need leaders like this unassuming Professor of Political Science and Political Economy, who takes much pleasure in investing in citizens’ dreams for the intrinsic reward of contributing to national values and development and not for personal gain.

Our collaboration began with a simple phone call on June 26, 2024. Despite his busy schedule, he promptly responded and scheduled a meeting for the next day. He commended my work and committed to writing the foreword.

I was initially skeptical, expecting delays. However, he delivered the foreword as promised, demonstrating exceptional reliability and dependability, something that is not very common with a lot of politicians. Beyond the foreword, he provided invaluable advice and connected me with key individuals. He also personally wrote invitation letters for the book unveiling, demonstrating his unwavering commitment.

The successful unveiling event is a testament to his dedication, selflessness, patriotism and fatherly nature. My team and I express our deepest gratitude to Rt. Hon. Prof. Julius Omozuanvbo Ihonvbere, a true Nigerian patriot. May God continue to bless him.
