Presidency: Wike Warns PDP May Lose 2027, Accuses Atiku, Governors of Dishonesty

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, accusing them of insincerity regarding plans for a political coalition.

Wike expressed concerns that the internal issues that led to the PDP’s defeat in the 2023 presidential election might resurface in 2027 due to continued impunity within the party.

Atiku recently initiated efforts to form a coalition of opposition parties to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections. However, PDP Governors, led by Governor Seyi Makinde, have distanced themselves from the move.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Wike said: “Those advocating for a coalition are not being honest, and those within the party are acting out of self-interest.”

He criticized the PDP Governors Forum for lacking sincerity, revealing that he had confronted Makinde over his comments on a political program.

Wike blamed the PDP’s 2023 failure on a disregard for the party’s constitution, especially the lack of fairness in power-sharing between the North and South. He warned that similar issues are resurfacing due to the actions of the Governors Forum.

He stressed that if impunity persists, it could cost the party the 2027 election. Wike added that the Governors Forum is merely a pressure group, not an official organ of the PDP, though it influences decisions within the party.
