Police Ban Protest in Abuja, Issue Stern Warning to Islamic Group

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has prohibited the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), also known as Shi’ite, from staging any protest in Abuja. The command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, announced this in a statement on Monday night, citing the group’s plans to hold a procession to mark the 2024 Islamic calendar day of Ashura.

According to Adeh, previous experiences have shown that such activities by the IMN often result in significant disturbances, anarchy, and chaos in the capital city. She warned that the police will not hesitate to use legal means to halt or incapacitate anyone who violates the ban.

The command emphasized its commitment to maintaining law and order and taking necessary measures to prevent activities that threaten public safety. Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, reaffirmed the command’s dedication to protecting citizens’ rights while ensuring public safety.
