The Nigerian Army has swiftly debunked rumors circulating on social media about the passing of Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja. A journalist’s post claiming Lagbaja died from stage three cancer 48 hours prior sparked widespread speculation, but the Army has labeled it as fake news.

According to sources within Army Headquarters, Lagbaja is critically ill and receiving medical treatment abroad. “The COAS is not dead. He is only critically ill at the moment. We should be praying for him at this critical time and not spreading rumors of his death,” one source clarified.

Despite attempts to reach Director of Army Public Relations, Maj. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, his phone remained unreachable, and he hasn’t responded to messages regarding the matter.

It’s essential to verify information through reputable channels to avoid spreading misinformation, especially regarding sensitive topics like this.
