The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has fined MultiChoice Nigeria ₦766.2 million for violating the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA).

In a statement by the NDPC, its investigation found that MultiChoice unlawfully processed personal data of both subscribers and non-subscribers, and conducted unauthorized cross-border data transfers. The NDPC states that these  actions breach the Data Protection Act and Nigeria’s Constitution.

NDPC CEO Dr. Vincent Olatunji has ordered a full review of all MultiChoice data collection channels, warning that any found non-compliant will face further penalty.
