Zlatan Ibile and Oladips, Nigerian musicians, have joined forces to put out ‘Mainland To Island’, a four-track extended play (EP).

The body of work, which was released in the early hours of Friday, dwells on the artistes’ journey from the ghetto end of Lagos to becoming a house owner on the Island.

Aside from one of the tracks named after the EP itself, the project includes tracks with titles like ‘Hallelujah’, ‘Zaddy’ and ‘Consistency’.

Zlatan gained recognition after releasing ‘My Body’, his 2017 hit track featuring Olamide. This was followed by his feature on the 2018 hit song ‘Able God’.

He later did ‘Zanku’, a song accompanied by a dance move of the same name, partnering the likes of Davido, Naira Marley, and Burna Boy in subsequent projects.

“Before fame, things were hard. I was doing bricklaying, cutting grass for people’s foundations, working in a cold room, gambling at game centres so I could earn a living,” the singer had said.

“I went to shows and they wouldn’t let me perform. I’d go submit my CD but when it’s time to perform, the DJ doesn’t find it. Even when you perform, the DJ scratches after your first verse to signal one’s time’s up.”

In turn, Oladips gained fame after winning D’banj’s ‘King is here’ competition, an award which earned him a record deal with Edge records label owned by Reminisce.

The track, which dropped Thursday in Lagos, serves as the album’s opening record and sets the tone for a project centered on perseverance, discipline, and self-belief. Blending gritty hip-hop production with melodic UK rap influences, “Consistency” showcases both artists’ lyrical dexterity and chemistry.

The music video for the single, released simultaneously on YouTube, quickly garnered over 22,000 views within hours of its debut, drawing praise from fans for its clean visuals and sharp storytelling.

On X (formerly Twitter), fans applauded the collaboration’s energy and cross-continental synergy, with one user describing it as “BlaqBonez’s most polished international link-up yet.” Others, however, reported brief streaming delays on platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music.
