The Kano State government has challenged the authority of the state’s Police Commissioner to ban Sallah festivities in the state. According to a statement by the Commissioner of Justice, the Police Commissioner’s actions are a usurpation of the Governor’s powers as the Chief Security Officer.

The Commissioner questioned who is behind the Commissioner of Police’s actions, stating that the Governor was not consulted or informed about the ban. The government views this as a consistent pattern of disobedience by the Police Commissioner, who claims to be acting on higher authority.

The statement expressed outrage at the ban, asking how anyone in their right mind could prohibit Sallah festivities in Kano. The government is seeking clarification on who is pushing the Police Commissioner to act against the Governor’s authority, suggesting that the Nigeria Police may be targeting Kano people for destruction.
