Kano Emirship Tussle: Court restrains Ado-Bayero, four others from acting as emirs

On Monday, the Kano State High Court issued a perpetual injunction, prohibiting Aminu Ado-Bayero, the 15th Emir of Kano, and four other deposed emirs from parading themselves as emirs.

Details of the Case

The Attorney General of Kano State, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, and the Kano State House of Assembly filed a motion seeking a court order to restrain Mr. Ado-Bayero and four other deposed emirs.

Court Ruling

Justice Amina Adamu-Aliyu ruled that the Kano State House of Assembly has the power to propose a bill for the peace and good governance of the state. The court also restrained the police and other security agencies from violating the Kano State Emirate (Repeal) Law 2024 .

Impact of the Ruling

The deposed emirs are required to surrender all movable and immovable properties in their possession that belong to the Kano State Emirate Council to the state government ¹ ². The ruling is the latest development in the Kano emirate crisis, with the deposed emirs insisting on holding their positions.
