Insecurity: Aisha Freed After Two Weeks in Captivity Following ₦20 Million Ransom Payment
A Nigerian woman, Aisha Wahab, has been released after spending two weeks in kidnappers’ custody in Auchi, Edo State, following the payment of a ₦20 million ransom raised through public donations and crowdfunding.
Wahab was abducted on October 11, 2025, from Igbira Camp and freed on October 24, according to activist Harrison Gwamnishu, who said he coordinated negotiations without government involvement.
Her ordeal drew widespread attention after videos showing her pleas for help circulated on social media. The incident highlights Nigeria’s persistent kidnapping epidemic, with more than 3,000 reported abductions nationwide in 2025, as ransom payments continue to fuel criminal activity.
