Enugu State 2025 Budget: N41 Billion Allocated for Enugu Air, N32.6 Billion for Education
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State yesterday unveiled plans to expand Enugu Air with the acquisition of four additional aircraft, allocating a whopping N41,132,463,000 for this project.
This significant investment is expected to elevate the state’s aviation sector, promoting economic growth and development. The expansion of Enugu Air is part of the state’s 2025 budget proposal, which prioritizes critical infrastructure development and amenities .
Mbah’s administration had on October 2023 announced plans to establish a state-owned airline, Enugu Air, within the next 15 months.
However, presenting N971billion 2025 Budget Appropriation to the State House of Assembly on Tuesday, Governor Mbah reiterated his administration’s determination to transform Enugu State into a commercial hub within Nigeria.
The proposed budget, tagged “Budget of Exponential Growth and Inclusive Prosperity,” allocates N837.9 billion for Capital Expenditure, accounting for 86% of the total budget. Recurrent Expenditure, on the other hand, stands at N133.1 billion, representing 14% of the budget.
Prioritizing Education and Critical Infrastructure
The 2025 budget proposal prioritizes significant investments in education and critical infrastructure, including roads, bridges, water supply, transport services, energy, and modernization of public services. The Education sector receives a substantial allocation of N320.609 billion, representing over 33% of the total budget for the second consecutive year.
Taking Enugu Air to New Heights
In a bid to boost the state’s aviation sector, Governor Mbah has allocated N41,132,463,000 billion for the expansion of Enugu Air, the state-owned airline. This significant investment is expected to enhance air travel services and promote economic growth in the state.
Poverty Eradication and Inclusive Development
Governor Mbah emphasized that the budget aligns with his administration’s goal of poverty eradication and inclusive development. The budget aims to ensure that no segment of society is left behind, promoting economic growth and prosperity for all.
Remarkable Growth in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR)
The governor also announced a remarkable increase in the state’s IGR, from N37.4 billion at the end of 2023 to N144.7 billion in September 2024. This represents a staggering 286.2% increase, demonstrating the administration’s efforts to reduce reliance on FAAC allocations.
