Ekiti Court Grants N50m Bail to Human Rights Lawyer, Dele Farotimi
A Federal High Court in Ado-Ekiti has granted Dele Farotimi, a human rights lawyer and activist, bail in the sum of N50 million with a surety in the same amount. Farotimi is facing a 12-count charge of cybercrime, filed by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
The court’s decision was made despite the prosecutor’s argument against granting bail. The presiding judge, Justice Babs Kuewumi, also ordered Farotimi to submit his international passport and adjourned the case until January 29, 2025, for the commencement of hearing.
Farotimi was previously arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti over alleged defamation of character following his book, ‘Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System’ .
