Borussia Dortmund has completed the signing of 19-year-old midfielder Jobe Bellingham from Sunderland on a five-year contract, lasting until June 2030.
Sunderland confirmed the deal, which includes a club-record fee of €32m (£26.96m) with potential add-ons worth €5m (£4.2m).
Bellingham, who joined Sunderland in 2023, made 90 appearances for the Black Cats and played a pivotal role in securing promotion to the Premier League last season. His impressive performances earned him the Championship Young Player of the Season award.
The young midfielder began his career at Birmingham City’s academy, where he rose through the ranks to play two years of senior football.
Bellingham expressed pride in his strong bond with Sunderland supporters, stating, “I will always represent Wearside in all that I strive to achieve for the rest of my career, wherever that may be.”
With the transfer finalized by June 10, Bellingham is set to join Dortmund in time for the Club World Cup, which kicks off on Sunday. This move follows in the footsteps of his older brother Jude Bellingham, who also came through Birmingham City’s youth system before joining Dortmund and later moving to Real Madrid in 2023.
