Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a significant realignment in the state’s political landscape.

Arise TV reported that the development was confirmed on Wednesday evening following a closed-door meeting at the Government House in Asaba. Speaking via phone, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, stated that the decision followed “wide consultations with political stakeholders and in the interest of Delta’s long-term development.”

Oborevwori, who won the 2023 gubernatorial election on the PDP platform, was received by senior APC officials, signaling a high-profile boost for the ruling party. Political analysts have begun describing the move as a strategic repositioning ahead of the 2027 general elections, with potential ripple effects across the South-South region.

Meanwhile the immediate past governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa; the current deputy governor, Monday Onyeme; Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Emomotimi Dennis Guwor; several House of Representatives members; and numerous other Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members in the state have joined him to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Additionally, the PDP chairman in the state and all local government chairpersons are also reported to have joined the APC.
