Dangote Refinery Slashes Cooking Gas Price to ₦760 per Kg After PENGASSAN Dispute Resolution

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reduced the ex-depot price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas, to ₦760 per kilogram, following the resolution of a labor dispute that recently disrupted supply nationwide.

The price cut positions Dangote’s refinery significantly below other major suppliers, who currently sell between ₦910 and ₦950 per kilogram.

The development comes days after a government-mediated settlement between refinery management and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), whose industrial action had caused temporary production and distribution delays.

Retail prices, however, remain high averaging over ₦1,000 per kilogram in Lagos, Abuja, and Ogun prompting public outcry over alleged price manipulation by middlemen and marketers hoarding supplies.

Consumer advocacy groups have called for strict regulatory oversight to ensure that the benefits of Dangote’s price cut reach households struggling with the soaring cost of domestic energy.

Industry observers say the refinery’s move could pressure other suppliers to follow suit, potentially stabilizing the volatile LPG market ahead of the festive season.
