The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has debunked a viral circular claiming the introduction of new ₦5,000 and ₦10,000 notes. The circular, which was widely shared on WhatsApp, falsely stated that the new notes would be in circulation from May 1.
The CBN described the circular as “fake” and urged the public to verify information through its official website, (link unavailable) This is not the first time the CBN has dealt with controversies surrounding currency, having raised concerns about counterfeit banknotes in 2023.
