The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested former Sokoto State governor and serving senator, Aminu Tambuwal, over alleged fraudulent cash withdrawals amounting to ₦189 billion.

According to The Cable, Tambuwal is currently being interrogated at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja. The allegations relate to transactions said to have taken place during his tenure as governor.

The arrest comes amid accusations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that the EFCC is engaging in selective investigations targeting opposition politicians.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC claimed that several EFCC summons to senior opposition figures were politically motivated, with some cases involving the reopening of old files without new evidence.

As of press time, the EFCC has not issued an official statement on Tambuwal’s arrest or the specific details of the investigation.
