BOTSWANA INTRODUCES MONTHLY GRANTS FOR NEW PARENTS
GABORONE, BOTSWANA – The Botswana government has announced a new initiative aimed at supporting new parents. Starting immediately, parents of newborn babies will receive a monthly grant of $22.
In addition to the monthly grant, the government will also provide free diapers and milk for children for three months after birth.
This new initiative is part of Botswana’s broader social welfare program, which already provides free education, healthcare, legal representation, and land to its citizens.
The government also provides allowances to older persons and physically challenged individuals.
The introduction of the monthly grant for new parents is seen as a welcome move by many, as it will help to alleviate some of the financial pressures associated with raising a new child.
