BONA NAIJAThe French international has decided to sue last season’s treble winners for multi-millions of pounds after they refused to pay him his wages. The 29-year-old filed a claim with the employment tribunal in the last few days claiming an unauthorised deduction after he was charged with rape and sexual assault in 2021.
Benjamin Mendy was found not guilty on all counts early this year (2023) and he is seeking the monies that Manchester City owes him until the end of his contract in June 2023.

Sky Sports News confirmed in a statement that Nick De Marco KC (instructed by Laffer Abogados (Madrid) is acting for the former Manchester City player Benjamin Mendy in a multi-million-pound claim for unauthorised deductions from wages. Manchester City FC failed to pay Mr Mendy any wages at all from September 2021, following Mr Mendy being charged with various offences all of which he was subsequently acquitted of, until the end of his contract in June 2023. The claim will come before an Employment Tribunal.

Mendy joined City from Monaco for £52 million in 2017 which was the highest amount paid for a defender at that time in the Premier League. He won three titles with the Manchester club and was also part of France’s World Cup-winning squad in 2018.
