Former African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, has strongly rejected the appointment of former Senate President David Mark as the party’s interim chairman.
The coalition, led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, announced the ADC as its platform for the 2027 general elections during a meeting in Abuja. They also named former Senate President David Mark as interim national chairman and former Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola as interim national secretary.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Kachikwu described the development as a “dramedy” orchestrated by allies of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Kachikwu alleged that the appointment was a “takeover” of the party’s national leadership by individuals lacking legitimacy and acting in alliance with a defunct leadership.
He referenced the expired tenure of the Ralph Nwosu-led executive, which lapsed on August 21, 2022.
The ADC presidential candidate accused Atiku’s allies of attempting to hijack the party structure without due process, describing them as “yesterday’s men” trying to prolong a “chopping must continue” political culture.
He also questioned their claim to be fighting for ordinary Nigerians, citing their backgrounds as former governors, ministers, and political figures.
Kachikwu reaffirmed the ADC’s commitment to progressive ideals and urged anyone seeking to join the party to do so “through the front door.”
He concluded by predicting that the group behind the appointment would soon exit the party, wishing them “bon voyage.”
