VIDEO: Nigeria Immigration have suspended an officer indefinitely over unprofessional conduct

In a swift response to a viral video showcasing unprofessional conduct, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has suspended an officer indefinitely for soliciting financial gratification from a traveler at Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
The officer, identified as Assistant Superintendent of Immigration II (ASI 2) Okpravero C. Ufuoma, was caught on camera engaging in the unethical behavior, prompting widespread outrage and calls for action.

The NIS has condemned the officer’s actions, stating that they do not reflect the organization’s values and ethics of professionalism. In a statement, the service pledged to take decisive action against any personnel found engaging in misconduct.
The suspension is pending the outcome of disciplinary procedures, which will be conducted in accordance with the law and Public Service Rules. The NIS is also implementing measures to prevent such incidents, including the introduction of electronic gates (e-gates) at all international airports to facilitate smoother travel.
This move is seen as a step towards restoring public trust and upholding the integrity of the Nigeria Immigration Service.
