The Turkish embassy in Abuja under the leadership of Hidayet Bayraktar has ordered that the country’s flags be lowered half mast in honour of former Head of Interim National Government (ING) Chief Ernest Shonekan, who died on Tuesday in Lagos.

The embassy made this known in a post on its social media handle on Thursday, January 13, 2022 as a way of showing solidarity for Nigeria who lost one of its elder statesmen, Shonekan at age 85.

The post, accompanied with Turkish crescent flags flying at half mast, read: “Our flags at the Embassy are lowered to half mast, in honour of Ernest Adegunle Oladeinde Shonekan, who served as Interim Head of State of Nigeria. May his soul rest in peace.”
