TRAGEDY STRIKES AS NIGER DELTA UNIVERSITY STUDENT IS STABBED TO DEATH OVER LEVY DISPUTE

A devastating incident has occurred in the Amassoma community, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, resulting in the tragic death of Francis Palowei, a final-year student at Niger Delta University’s Social Science Education Department.

According to eyewitnesses, Palowei was stabbed to death by a group of youths at a popular sand dump on Monday, July 15, 2024, after refusing to pay a N500 levy. The student was set to graduate on July 24, 2024.

The sand dump, a popular spot for students to relax and socialize, has been taken over by local youths who demand a levy from students who want to climb to the top. On the fateful evening, Palowei and his friends were confronted by the youths, leading to an argument that escalated into a fatal attack.

The university and police authorities have confirmed the incident, with the police deploying additional security personnel to the area to restore calm and apprehend the suspected killers. The deceased’s father is a high-ranking police officer.

The university community is in mourning, and the incident has sparked outrage over the senseless killing of a promising young life.
