Anambra-based entrepreneur and popular TikTok personality, Ifesinachi Onyekere, widely known as “Fish Magnet”, has been murdered by unidentified gunmen following his abduction in Awka on Monday night.

According to eyewitness accounts, the assailants stormed Onyekere’s residence around 10:30 p.m. on July 29, shot him in the leg, and forced him into his Toyota Corolla before fleeing the scene.

While police and other security agencies have yet to release an official statement, multiple sources confirm that Onyekere’s lifeless body has been discovered. The exact location of where the body was found remains undisclosed for security reasons.

Onyekere, a prominent figure on social media, used his TikTok platform to promote catfish farming and export, gaining national attention for his entrepreneurial spirit and youth empowerment initiatives. His death marks a disturbing escalation in the spate of kidnappings and killings targeting business owners in the Southeast region.

In response to the tragedy, social media activist and influencer, VeryDarkMan, has announced plans to hold a candlelight vigil in Onyekere’s honor on August 4 in Anambra State.

“This is not just about Fish Magnet. It’s about every young Nigerian trying to survive and make an honest living,” VeryDarkMan said in a post.

The killing of Onyekere has sparked outrage on social media, with calls for increased government action on insecurity and protection of businesses.

This incident adds to the growing concerns over safety in Anambra and other parts of Nigeria, particularly as violent crimes continue to threaten local businesses and young innovators.
