Onyekere, a prominent figure on social media, used his TikTok platform to promote catfish farming and export, gaining national attention for his entrepreneurial spirit and youth empowerment initiatives. His death marks a disturbing escalation in the spate of kidnappings and killings targeting business owners in the Southeast region.

In response to the tragedy, social media activist and influencer, VeryDarkMan, has announced plans to hold a candlelight vigil in Onyekere’s honor on August 4 in Anambra State.

“This is not just about Fish Magnet. It’s about every young Nigerian trying to survive and make an honest living,” VeryDarkMan said in a post.

The killing of Onyekere has sparked outrage on social media, with calls for increased government action on insecurity and protection of businesses.

This incident adds to the growing concerns over safety in Anambra and other parts of Nigeria, particularly as violent crimes continue to threaten local businesses and young innovators.

18-year-old apprentice impregnates 10 in five months, including master’s daughter

An 18-year-old apprentice in Anambra State has reportedly impregnated 10 girls in just five months, including his master’s daughter and a salesgirl. The young man was initially sent to learn a trade under a master, but within three months, he allegedly got his boss’s daughter and the salesgirl pregnant, leading to his dismissal from the apprenticeship.

10 girls involved

The state Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, disclosed the incident in a live video on social media yesterday. Obinabo revealed that the situation worsened after the apprentice returned to his village, saying: “I want advice from the public because this one is beyond my capacity. This boy was sent to learn a trade at the age of 18 and three months of apprenticeship, and he impregnated his master’s daughter and his salesgirl. He was sent packing. Two months after that, he impregnated eight other girls in the village.”

Obinabo added that the boy’s mother came to her office to report the situation, saying: “‘Anytime I see a girl coming towards our house nowadays, my heart would jump, please, I need help.’”

The Commissioner stated that the issue was beyond her control, and she appealed for public assistance to find a solution. “Is it spiritual?” she questioned, explaining that when she asked the boy how he convinced the girls, he told her he would tell them he loved them and would marry them once he acquired wealth.

Obinabo did not reveal the names of the boy, his mother, or their community but called on the public to suggest solutions to the problem.

Chaos erupted at the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Anambra State on Saturday morning, as thugs allegedly loyal to aspirant Nicholas Ukachukwu, disrupted the delegate accreditation process at the Beautiful Gate Hotel in Awka. The thugs, reportedly working with police officers, barricaded the hotel gate and only allowed entry to individuals with Ukachukwu-branded ID cards.

Delegates supporting other aspirants were turned away, harassed, and physically assaulted. The incident has raised concerns about the integrity and fairness of the primary process. The APC leadership is being urged to intervene and ensure the safety of delegates.

In a swift reaction, the Valentine Ozigbo Campaign Organisation condemned the violence and exclusionary tactics.

Speaking on behalf of Ozigbo, campaign spokesperson Ephraim Adiele decried what he called an attempt to “hijack the primary” through intimidation and force.

“We reject the politics of violence and call for a level playing field,” Adiele said.

“Clearly, Nicholas Ukachukwu is seeking to hijack the primary. It cannot stand. The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) should act now to prevent a crisis.”

At the time of this report, Nicholas Ukachukwu’s camp had not issued any public response to the accusations.

This development comes after Sir Paul Chukwuma, a top APC governorship aspirant, resigned from the party less than 24 hours before the primary election, citing internal strife and allegations of manipulated delegate lists.
