Three Site Workers Killed in Lagos Building Collapse

Tragedy struck in the early hours of Thursday when a building under construction collapsed at Arowojobe Estate in Maryland, Lagos, resulting in the death of three site workers.

According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the incident occurred at No. 13, Wilson Mba Street, Arowojobe Estate, Maryland, Lagos, at approximately 3:49 a.m.

LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed that the agency received a distress call and promptly activated its response team to the scene.

Upon arrival, it was discovered that a set of three terraces under construction had collapsed, trapping six site workers. Unfortunately, three adult males were recovered dead, while two males were rescued alive and one adult male was trapped under the rubble.

The rescued individuals are receiving pre-hospital care on location, while the remains of the three fatalities have been handed over to the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit.

A combined team of LASEMA personnel, the Lagos State Fire Service, and the Nigeria Police are working together at the scene, with LASEMA’s excavator deployed to accelerate search and rescue operations.

The cause of the building collapse is yet to be determined, but an investigation is currently underway.
