Tension As Peter Obi, Mimiko, Ortom, Others Meet Wike
The Presidential Candidate of Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi , former Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko , Governors Samuel Ortom of Bunue State, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, have held a meeting with Governor Nyesom Wike of River State.
It was learnt that former Gombe State Governor, Ibrahim Dankambo and his Cross Rivers State counterpart, Donald Duke, were also at the closed-door meeting held on Monday night Wike’s private residence in Port Harcourt.
This is the second time Obi is meeting with Wike in less than one month amid tension in the ranks of Peoples Democratic Party. The PDP has been trying to mend fences with Wike, who lost the presidential ticket of the party as well as the vice presidential slot.
Governor Nyesom Wike was said to have received the visitors in company with Ortom, Ikpeazu, Duke and the Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South-South, Chief Dan Orbih, among other leaders.
The PDP governors had earlier on Monday attended the 74th birthday party of former Governor Peter Odili at his private residence in Port Harcourt.
The agenda of the meeting was not made public but our reporter learnt that the meeting was not unconnected with Obi’s consultations across party lines to actualise his 2023 presidential ambition.
After the meeting the prominent politicians took photos in front of Wike’s residence.
Recall that Obi had last week visited Mimiko in his residence in Lagos fueling speculations that the latter might have come with Obi to appeal to Wike to support the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 presidential election.
