Suspected Herdsmen Kill Seven in Two-Day Attacks on Benue’s Anwule Community
Suspected herdsmen launched deadly attacks on Anwule community in Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State on November 3 and 4, leaving at least seven people dead, including Pastor Simon Nbach, women, and children.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants invaded the community, shooting indiscriminately and setting homes and farmlands ablaze. The attackers reportedly retreated after a brief security patrol, only to return hours later to continue the assault.
Local sources link the violence to the alleged killing of a herder and some cattle by villagers earlier in the week, escalating long-standing farmer-herder tensions in Nigeria’s Middle Belt region.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement, while residents are calling for increased security presence to prevent further attacks.
