The Punch reports that the activists had gathered at the National Human Rights Commission in Maitama, Abuja, to present a letter to the chairman of the commission when they were attacked by the hoodlums.
The youths descended on one of the coalition leaders, Deji Adeyanju, as the other campaigners and journalists scampered for safety.

Adeyanju sustained some injuries and was subsequently rescued from his assailants.
He is presently being treated at an unidentified hospital.
Also Nigerians on Twitter have expressed their concerns on the development.
They don’t want to use teargas and life bullets to attack protesters again, they now send thugs to beat up protesters in full glare of an officer of the Nigerian Police.
This attack on Deji Adeyanju is an insult to every free citizen of Nigeria.@hrw @StateDept @UKinNigeria pic.twitter.com/tDeEIGGz1g

This assault on Deji Adeyanju may spark happiness in the 'hearts' of evil supporters of a tyrannical regime but it is only an invitation to anarchy – it stirs anger in the hearts of revolutionaries who do not even know it yet.

What happened to Deji Adeyanju today is really despicable. That protesters can be attacked/almost killed, in a democracy? This is a new low. For those who organised the hoodlums and those will justify this attack, it might be your turn very soon. Because power is transient.
