The Biafra Republic Government In-Exile (BRGIE), led by Simon Ekpa, has declared that there is no need for the Ohaneze Ndi Igbo organization in Biafraland following the recent death of its President, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.

In a statement released on Friday, Ekpa, the Prime Minister of BRGIE, said that the organization and its leaders are not working towards the liberation of Biafra and that Biafrans are tired of mourning and crying over Ohaneze Ndi Igbo.

Ekpa warned that going forward, there should be no further elections or activities of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo in Biafraland, and that anyone propagating the organization will be dealt with.

This statement comes after the death of Iwuanyanwu on Thursday, July 25, 2024, following a brief illness. His predecessor, George Obiozor, had also passed away in December 2022.

The BRGIE’s declaration has sparked controversy, with many prominent figures, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, southeast governors, and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, having offered their condolences over Iwuanyanwu’s death.
