A federal high court in Abuja has overturned an interim forfeiture order issued on properties belonging to former Senate Deputy President Ike Ekweremadu.

In his ruling on Friday, January 20, 2023, the presiding judge, Inyang Ekwo, held that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which obtained the order on behalf of the Federal Government, concealed information that led to its granting.

Specifically, Justice Ekwo stated that the EFCC, which was fully aware that Ekweremadu was being held in the United Kingdom, failed to provide critical information.

Ekweremadu, who is currently incarcerated in the United Kingdom for alleged human trafficking, had his properties seized by the anti-graft commission on fraud and corruption charges.
In the meantime, the former Deputy Senate President and his wife are on trial in the United Kingdom for alleged organ harvesting.
