Senate Screens New Ministerial Nominees Amid Presidential Reshuffle

The Senate has finally begun screening seven ministerial nominees appointed by President Bola Tinubu last Wednesday. The screening exercise, initially postponed on Tuesday, took place at the red chamber on Wednesday.

Ministerial Nominees Undergoing Screening:

  • Nentawe Yilwatda: Nominated to replace Betta Edu as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction
  • Bianca Odumegu-Ojukwu: Nominated as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs
  • Maigari Dingyadi: Nominated as Minister of Labour and Employment
  • Jumoke Oduwole: Nominated as Minister of Industry
  • Idi Maiha: Nominated as Minister for the newly created Livestock Development Ministry
  • Yusuf Ata: Nominated as Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development
  • Suwaiba Ahmad: Nominated as Minister of State for Education

Interestingly, President Tinubu had sacked five ministers and reassigned 10 others to different portfolios before appointing these seven new ministers. The Senate suspended its rules to admit these nominees, and their screening is currently underway.
