Nigerian singer Ruger has achieved another milestone with his hit single “Asiwaju,” which has been certified Gold in France. This marks the song’s third career certification, following its 3x Platinum certification in Nigeria and Silver certification in the United Kingdom.
Released in November 2022, “Asiwaju” was initially intended as a filler record but quickly gained massive popularity in the local market, partly due to its association with the then APC presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The song’s success has been unprecedented, dominating the Nigerian music charts and establishing Ruger as a certified hitmaker in the Afrobeats genre. “Asiwaju” spent seven weeks atop the Official Nigeria Top 100, becoming the longest-running number-one song since Fireboy DML and Asake’s “Bandana.”
Ruger’s achievement is a testament to his growing global influence and the impact of Afrobeats on the international music scene. With “Asiwaju” continuing to break records and gain recognition worldwide, Ruger is solidifying his position as one of Nigeria’s most successful artists.
