Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Rema has marked the one-year anniversary of his genre-bending debut album HEIS with a heartfelt and symbolic message to fans and critics alike.

In a post shared across his social platforms, the 24-year-old artist thanked his loyal fanbase the Ravers for supporting him on a bold artistic journey that stretched the boundaries of Afrobeat and alternative culture.

HEIS did everything I wanted it to do,” Rema wrote. “True Ravers did play their roles while I walked this path. It cut through deep beyond music, y’all even pulled up to the shows on ALL BLACK outfits, leather boots & raged with me.”

Released on July 11, 2024, HEIS marked a sharp evolution in Rema’s sonic and visual identity, blending Afro-rave with punk, trap, and grunge influences. The album polarized audiences but developed a cult-like following for its thematic boldness and aesthetic consistency.

Rema’s message also included a cryptic line aimed at those who doubted or criticized his vision.

Thanks to the Peters, the Johns, the Thomases & the Judas who betrayed the course. You were all part of this story, now I know. ✌🏾🖤

The reference to biblical figures particularly “Judas” suggests a layer of betrayal or disillusionment during the album’s rollout, though Rema offered no direct explanation.

Since its release, HEIS has gained critical acclaim for its fearless experimentation and has inspired a unique subculture within Rema’s fanbase known for embracing dark aesthetics, mosh pits, and a rebellious spirit at live shows.

As Rema looks ahead, his message leaves one thing clear: HEIS was not just an album it was a movement.
