Police Rescue Abducted Teen, Arrest 27 Suspects in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has successfully rescued a 14-year-old boy, Hassan, who was kidnapped in the Olodi-Apapa area. The incident, reported on May 1, 2025, at around 2:50 p.m., prompted a swift police response after the kidnappers demanded a ransom of N20 million.

Officers tracked the suspects to a ransom drop-off location at the Total Filling Station near Wema Bridge, Apapa, where they apprehended a suspect identified as 25-year-old Musa Shaibu. Further investigation led them to a hotel in Ajegunle, where the victim was found unharmed and safely reunited with his family. The hotel manager, 41-year-old Remilekun Ajilola, was also taken into custody and is assisting with the investigation.

This case is one of 12 major incidents handled by the Lagos Police in the past two weeks, during which 27 individuals were arrested for various crimes, including kidnapping, murder, sexual assault, armed robbery, vandalism, cultism, and illegal possession of weapons.

Among the items recovered during these operations were two firearms, seven live rounds, a vehicle, a tricycle, three battle axes, cutlasses, charms, and other banned objects.

In another operation on April 27, police responded to an emergency call in Alagbado, where suspected cultists attacked a 25-year-old man named Quadri with machetes. Two suspects, Riliwan Afuape (26) and Bamidele Ayobami (29), were arrested, while the injured victim was taken to the General Hospital in Ile-Epo.

On April 28, two suspected robbers were saved from mob action in the Suru Alaba area of Ajegunle. The suspects, 25-year-olds Azeez Anafi, also known as “Stainless,” and Damilare Brown, were caught with a locally-made pistol, an expended cartridge, and a tricycle believed to be stolen.

The duo is accused of fatally shooting a 35-year-old motorcyclist named Abubakar during an attempted robbery. His body has been deposited at a public morgue for autopsy.

Police spokesperson SP Benjamin Hundeyin reaffirmed the command’s dedication to protecting lives and property, under the leadership of Commissioner Olohundare Moshood Jimoh. He assured residents that the fight against crime will continue vigorously across Lagos State.
