Only Authorized Officials to Attend UNGA Meeting – Tinubu

In a move to reduce the cost of governance and ensure prudent management of resources, President Bola Tinubu has directed a significant reduction in the number of Nigeria’s official delegation to the forthcoming United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) meetings in New York, United States.

According to the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, only authorized officials will be allowed to attend the 79th session of UNGA in September. Gbajabiamila disclosed this during a one-day retreat organized by the State House management for heads of government agencies under its supervision.

The directive is aimed at preventing individuals from using the opportunity of international meetings for personal businesses. Gbajabiamila emphasized that the President is committed to addressing the concerns of Nigerians and ensuring efficient service delivery in government operations.

The Chief of Staff urged heads of agencies to comply strictly with the directive, warning that the President is monitoring the situation closely. He also encouraged the State House management and chief executives of agencies to lead by example by ensuring compliance with relevant statutes, laws, and policies.

This move is seen as a significant step towards reducing the cost of governance and ensuring that government resources are utilized efficiently. The 79th session of UNGA is scheduled to take place in September, and it remains to be seen how this new directive will impact Nigeria’s participation.
