NYCN Purges Leadership: Sukubo Expelled, Two Suspended Over Alleged Misconduct

Abuja, Nigeria – In a move to uphold constitutional integrity and ethical standards, the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has expelled its former President, Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, over allegations of misconduct, financial impropriety, and constitutional breaches.

According to a letter dated June 10, 2025, and signed by Acting Secretary General, Comrade Rikki Nwajiofor, the expulsion followed the findings of an investigative committee that probed various allegations against Sukubo.

The committee’s report revealed multiple breaches of the NYCN Constitution, including the unlawful usurpation of duties assigned to the National Financial Secretary and the issuance of a ₦200 million dud cheque to the NYCN.

Sukubo was also accused of unauthorized alterations to the 2018 NYCN Constitution (as amended). The NYCN National Secretariat noted that the Rivers State Chapter of the Council had previously expelled Sukubo, citing Article 9.1 of the NYCN Constitution, which further reinforced the national body’s decision.

As a result of the expulsion, Sukubo is permanently barred from representing himself as the President or former President of the NYCN in any official capacity, as stated in Article 21.3, Section A, Subsections i & iv of the 2018 Constitution (as amended).

In a related development, the NYCN has suspended Deputy President Amb. Innocent Nduanya and Secretary General Abubakar Suleiman Esq. over allegations of gross incompetence and failure to discharge their constitutional duties, which allowed several constitutional breaches by Sukubo to occur.

These leadership changes are seen as part of a broader effort to sanitize the NYCN and reinforce constitutional discipline within the organization, which is one of Nigeria’s foremost youth advocacy bodies.

The shake-up in the NYCN leadership is expected to have significant implications for the organization’s future direction and effectiveness in representing Nigerian youth.
